Speedy the loner

When I was putting the animals to bed last night it dawned on me that Speedy is a real loner. There she was huddled next to the wall with her babies with only Blondy Bear the runt rooster for company. Even Tommy no longer sleeps near her.
Tommy has moved into the house with Miss Muffet and Lady, not to mention all of the chickens and ducks.

I'm off to Brisbane for the weekend and am leaving my brood in the care of Blu Rum 13. Sure he can rap, but can he care for the chickens and ducks? Not to mention remember to close their door at night. All will be revealed on Monday.

Tiny Town

I'm taking my house guests to Tiny Town soon. Sure, its not called Tiny Town but I think that's what they should call it. http://www.minianimals.net/
But what would I get? A Tiny Pony, Tiny Donkey or Tiny cow? So many choices.
I never thought I was a horse person until I saw the tiny ones.

Update

Miss Muffet and Lady are no longer moping about after me taking their eggs. I felt terrible for a day or two but now its fine. I nearly even hand fed Lady yesterday, it was close so maybe one day soon. Tommy is lovin it now hey are hanging out with him again. He's got his bitches back. As someone told me the other day, "he's got a girl for each nut". It looks like Lady is his favourite at the moment. They had a rocky start but now its all good.

Speedy is still with her children and is yet to reject them. I think this must be some sort of record for her. All of my parenting skills with her are finally rubbing off. I penned both the mothers and Blondy Bear in with Young Boy yesterday. It was raining so hard and the door was shut on the normal pen, so they just slept in there.
Old Boy is still kicking along, I was glad he wasn't out in the rain yesterday. He's still the most handsome rooster around. He's now gotten quite used to me hand feeding him. Now when I put the food out he just comes over to me and stands at my feel expecting food. And I'm happy to oblige.

Umm

Here is an out-take from our little photo shoot the other day. This I call 'Tommy the thinker'.

I had to pen the ducks in the old duck pen as there was much fighting and commotion yesterday, as I took the duck eggs. Both Miss Muffet and Lady were very upset and angry and I'm pretty sure they hate me. At night when everyone was going to bed, Miss Muffet was attacking the black hen who fought back and it was on. At first I thought it was Tommy and then as I got closer I thought it was Speedy but then I saw it was the black hen. You see with no eggs for them to sit on Old Boy went into the house and sat on their nest and lucky for Miss Muffet she didn't attack Old Boy, so instead she attacked the black hen.
They really didn't like being the duck pen, nor did Tommy either. I think it brought back too many bad memories of his siblings.
At the moment they are all penned in with the chickens, so we'll see how they go tonight.

Vegas

I just couldn't resist sharing this picture of Vegas, my old housemate (also known as Fatty). The poor dear tore the cruciate ligament in her knee, so she's had to have yet another operation.

As you can see from the photo she looks as pleased as punch. I especially love that cone around her head, it really brings out the colour in her eyes.

Tommy Boy

Tommy is back to being by his lonesome since the two girls are nesting. But lucky for him, he's no longer depressed and he spends his day underneath the mango tree. I love his feet in this photo. When the girls come off the nest in the morning I have to keep my eye on Tommy as he has a tendency to chase them and crash tackle them for sex. I can usually tell he's about to do this and walk him out of the pen. The other day he ran Miss Muffet into the fence, so its not really a pleasurable experience for the ladies.

Nest wars

Lady has started laying eggs and has taken over Miss Muffet's nest. I feel bad for Miss Muffet as she's been sitting here for about two weeks now. What is it with hens (and now ducks) that they always steal nests.
